Sustainable Morse Parks volunteers have been busy over the few months doing the following in our neighborhood to make it a more sustainable neighborhood to live in:May Sponsored an Electronics and Metal Recycling event where over27 tons were collected to avoid dumping in landfills.Hosted a presentation on “How I Bike to Work”.Supported Slater Elementary’s Spring Fling at Morse ParkParticipated in Slater Elementary’s Science Fair with a display on the Carbon Cycle and the need to Compost and offered hands -on activities for the students with an herb garden giveaway. Hosted a Garden Tour two of our neighbor’s gardens in conjunction with The Belmar and Kiwanis Clubs in which 60 people attended to benefit serving children of the world.June:Hosted a table for the metro-wide Bike to Work Day station at Morse Park. Arranged a Yard Waste Compost Collection for the neighborhood which inspired the city of Lakewood to arrange a citywide yard waste collection taking place over the next several weekends this Fall.Initiated the planting and maintenance of 2 plots at the Slater Elementary School Community Garden for the purpose of donating produce to the Jeffco Action Center. As of this date over 60 pounds of produce have been donatedJuly: Established a relationship with Slater Elementary School to assist with PTA activities and support for the school. Sept:Hosted a table at the Glen’s Art Walk to provide Maps for the event and to highlight upcoming SMP events.Hosted the Petting Farm at the Slater Fall Festival and a garden share table at the event.Participated in Love Lakewood Day to help install a rock garden at the entrance of Slater Elementary School.Oct.-Nov.:Coordinated a city-wide Yard Waste Compost drop off at several sites Oct. 11, 18. 25 and Nov. 1 and 8.
